Welcome to my farm!

Welcome to Cold Hands Farm!  I am a wife and mother of two little girls who has always dreamed of a big yellow farmhouse with a covered porch overlooking acres of grazing sheep.  Well I couldn't be further from that dream right now!  I currently live in the congested Southern California area, not too far from Los Angeles and have a backyard that is slightly larger than a parking space at Target.  I have shelves and shelves of books on self-reliance, farm living, gardening, raising farm animals, hand crafts, etc. and finally decided that it's time I start working toward my dream.  I recently heard someone say "Stop allowing other people or your circumstances control your happiness.  Make the most of where you are and make yourself happy."  So that is what I am going to do.  This blog marks the beginning of this journey - the good, the bad and the ugly.  I do not have the space for the sheep I dream of, but I do have the space for rabbits.  More specifically, rabbits I can harvest wool from - fiber animals, just like my sheep.  As I type this, a deposit check is on it's way to a French Angora Rabbit breeder in Northern California for a buck (boy) and doe (girl) with which I plan to start my Farm.  The beauty of rabbits is that they are extremely versatile.  They can give you fiber, meat, pelts, poop (great fertilizer) and can be sold as pets.  My first two rabbits, thus far nameless, will forever be kept as family pets...as well as fiber producers, breeders and poop suppliers for my attempt at gardening.  The young doe I am purchasing will not be ready to leave the rabbitry until July, so I am currently purchasing the necessary equipment to house a breeding pair.  Earlier today, I purchased two of everything - cages, pans, hay feeders, crocks.  I have plans to build a rack to hold up to 3 cages stacked on top of one another (planning for the future) and have found the greatest, sweetest mentor in Sarah (the woman I am buying my first rabbits from).  I have even sent away for membership into the ARBA (American Rabbit Breeders Association) and registry for my rabbitry (Cold Hands Farm will be a ARBA registered rabbitry).  Things are moving along and July can't come soon enough for me!  I already have the two Pet Taxis I will need to transport the rabbits home in sitting in the garage, ready to go.  Now the only thing left to do before the rabbits get here is to build the cage rack, buy some grooming tools (angoras are all about grooming) and think of names for these babies!  My buck is a chocolate torte, which is kind of a light brown/tan color and the doe will hopefully be a blue torte, which is kind of a grey (I say hopefully because the doe's litter is too young to sex yet, so I have requested the blue if it is a girl...if not, then a fawn which is kind of orange/tan...if that one is not a girl either, than it will be a ruby-eyed white), so basically I'm sure about the buck - not so sure about the doe.  I'm praying for the blue torte - so beautiful!  But any will be lovely.  So what do you think, any name suggestions?
